Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days is an independent documentary film that chronicles six Americans with diabetes who switch to a diet consisting entirely of vegan, organic, uncooked food in order to reverse disease without pharmaceutical medication.
The film highlights each of the six before they begin the program and we first meet them in their home environment with their families. Each participant speaks candidly about their struggle to manage their diabetes and how it has affected every aspect of their life, from work to home to their relationships.
This is a truly inspiring, hopeful and unprecedented film that shows how, through simple life-style changes we can transform our health AND our lives in a very short period of time.

GreenDrinks London
Where: Alex P. Keaton
Speakers:
Ian Colin James is a fly fishing guide, national best selling author and a conservationist. In January of 2009, he will be teaching the first accredited fly fishing course in Canada at Fanshawe College. Ian is well known for his quick, dry Scottish wit and his after dinner speaking engagements have taken him all across Canada and the USA. Ian has been involved in the Springbank Dam fiasco for 8 years and that's what he is going to chat about at GreenDrinks. If you want to know anything about the fish and the wildlife along the Thames river, this is probably your best chance to find out as Ian spends a lot of time guiding there.
Don Gordon, Executive Director of the Thames Talbot Land Trust
Land Trusts are non-government charitable organizations that acquire and manage natural areas to provide perpetual conservation. In Ontario the land trust movement is about 15 years old and consists mostly of community or regional trusts led by volunteers who believe conservation is too important to be left to governments alone. Don Gordon is currently the executive director of our local Thames Talbot Land Trust and he was also a founding Governor of the Ontario Land Trust Alliance.

Achieving deep and rapid reductions in fossil fuel CO2 emissions
Danny Harvey, Department of Geography, University of Toronto
When: Friday, November 21st, 3:00 pm
Where: UWO - SSC 2333
http://geography.ssc.uwo.ca/speakerseries/poster/Harvey2008.pdf
There is growing evidence that a CO2 concentration of only 450 ppmv poses a significant risk of eventually catastrophic impacts in many parts of the world, yet the CO2 concentration has already risen from a pre-industrial concentration of 280 ppmv to 385 ppmv at present, and will shoot far above 450 ppmv in the absence of strong action to reduce emissions. Drawing upon a book by the author that is nearing completion, this talk will discuss the broad framework of actions possible for achieving deep and rapid reductions in CO2 emissions, with a particular focus on two areas: reducing absolute energy use in the building stock in developed countries by a factor of two over a period of 40 years, and getting coal off of the electricity grids in North America and Europe over a period of 30 years. The talk will also discuss the extent to which these and other technical options will be sufficient to avoid significant negative impacts due to global warming.
