Waste Free World is looking for a Summer Festivals Outreach Supervisor to help develop and implement a communication plan to educate vendors and the public about new waste reduction policies related to the use of Victoria Park in London North Centre, specifically related to the new policy banning polystyrene and non reusable packaging at all events held in the parks.
Responsibilities:
•Helping train and supervise events volunteers and vendors
•Developing an outreach strategy for London Green Festivals team to broaden its exposure to citizens of London
•Aiding in the research, writing, and distribution of public education materials for greening festivals
•Working with London Green Festivals Team to achieve 75% waste diversion at the summer festivals in Victoria Park
•Help to set up and tear down waste collection stations (EcoStations) for each event
•Other duties as assigned.
The supervisor will be assisted in this role by the members of the Green Festival Committee and by City of London employees. The Green Festival Committee is comprised of the primary organizers of the major festivals held in London’s Victoria Park along with City of London employees and members of Waste Free World. NOTE: Hours are flexible due to the nature of the festivals. Some evening and weekend work will be required
The successful candidate will ideally have experience in public speaking, events planning and management, a background in environmental or community issues, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and be capable of independent work as well as working effectively in a team setting.
This position is funded in part through a grant from Service Canada's Canada Summer Jobs program, which aims to promote youth employment. As a result, the following restrictions on applicants apply:
•Are between 15 and 30 years of age;
•Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
•Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
•Are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
