Environment and Sustainability in Action: 2009 IDEAS Forum

Bob McDonald (http://www.speakers.ca/mcdonald_bob.aspx) kicks off a full day of Environment and Sustainability presentations and events at the IDEAS Conference.

The energy crisis of 1973 saw a drop in popularity of large gas-guzzling cars and fuel efficiency became a priority. Gas prices rose and SUV’s became more popular. Does that make any sense? Why do people oppose Kyoto? Windmills produce clean energy and yet people protest their use. Canada is one of the worst consumers of energy and water in the world. Scientists have been sounding alarm bells about environmental decline for decades. Why is real social change so slow in coming? Are there realistic solutions? Bob McDonald will address these and other Environmental Conundrums that defy logical scientific sense, and discuss why we continue to engage in contradictory and often harmful behaviours.
