February 17, 2009 - London Community Foundation is calling for nominations for the 2009 Ivey Award for Excellence. Nomination deadline is Friday, April 6th. Each year, the Ivey Award for Excellence recognizes a community volunteer, who, like London Community Foundation, has enhanced the quality of life in London or Middlesex County.
Past recipients were those who have made outstanding contributions to arts and culture, social service, education, health and physical activity or the environment in at least two or more of the following ways:
- providing leadership;
- identifying and responding to needs in our community;
- acting as a catalyst for innovation and collaboration.
"This year, in keeping with our focus on strategic environmental granting, the Board of London Community Foundation has determined that the award will focus on candidates who are leaders in the area of environmentalism." says Martha Powell, CEO of The London Community Foundation.
The award recipient receives a certificate and the opportunity to direct a $1,000 grant to the charity of his or her choice.
The Ivey Award for Excellence was created in 1985 by London Community Foundation to honour the Ivey Family of London for their outstanding contribution to our community. A strong sense of duty and community service has been embraced by four generations of the Ivey’s, who have become one of Canada’s leading philanthropic families. Through strategic philanthropy, the Ivey’s encourage excellence in our community, challenging leaders to creatively anticipate and meet community needs.
The 2009 award will be presented to the selected recipient at the Sunoco Earth Day Event on April 19th in Watson Street Park.
