The World's Largest Social Movement
The world's largest movement has no name, no leader, and no ideology, yet it involves more than 100 million people. Paul Hawken, in his inspiring speech at Bioneers, says, "The movement can’t be divided because it is atomized - small pieces loosely joined. It forms, gathers, and dissipates quickly. Many inside and out dismiss it as powerless, but it has been known to bring down governments, companies, and leaders through witnessing, informing, and massing." The prominent scholar and author adds, "This movement is not burdened with a syndrome of trying to save the world; it is trying to remake the world."

Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Gameboys
New U.S. coalition hopes to get vid-kids back outside.
More than 50 business leaders, politicians, and activists have formed a national partnership to get America 's kids the hell outside. Inspired by recent concerns that too much fun with video games, computers, and TV can lead to obesity and depression, the National Forum on Children and Nature is launching a $20 million campaign to fund 20 demonstration projects across the country. We don't know why it takes $20 million to say, "Turn the TV off and go outside," but we digress. The effort, organized by the Conservation Fund, includes members ranging from Disney to DuPont, from the Memphis Daily News to Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D).
"For decades, environmental educators, conservationists, and others have worked, often heroically, to bring more children to nature," says honorary co-chair Richard Louv, whose book Last Child in the Woods sparked the current awareness. "The National Forum on Children and Nature will create a new level of commitment and action. This could be the tipping point."

Smart City Planning
Hi Tiffany, Could you please post the following notice for your Green Drinks members. Let's support responsible, smart development. Teresa
"For those of you who disagree that cookie-cutter sprawl, BIG BOX stores, expensive unsustainable infrastructure, and growth with no imagination are our only options please attend the following very important Council Meeting at City Hall on Monday July 30 - beginning at 2pm."
On July 30th, the Public is invited to attend and participate in discussions around the Growth Boundary. City Staff has determined there is adequate land and no additional land is needed. See Official Plan Review and Land Needs on http://www.london.ca/. Many developers and (possibly half) of the councillors disagree, stating that if we do not add additional lands we will stifle growth and employment. This is a lie....as further creative, smart growth will occur within the present city boundaries. If the boundary is extended...run-away sprawl will continue. Please empower our city council to do what is in the best interest of individual citizens not developers. Let's fill the gallery.....so that we begin to see responsible, smart city planning.
Create a sign with your "voice" message. Examples: Smart Growth is not Anti-Development, Responsible Growth does not mean a loss of jobs. Say "No" to the expansion of urban boundaries. Grow up Not Out. Vibrant City not Ugly Sprawl, We want diversity - in small businesses. Take back the city from Developers. We want our city back. Use your imagination....

Make History - Host a 'Live Earth' Party
Dear friends,
On July 7, more than 2 billion people will join together to watch the Live Earth concerts and demonstrate to our leaders that the time has come to solve the climate crisis.
Wherever you are that day, you can be part of the action. At events around the world, we are going to convert the potential energy of Live Earth into a global campaign. In thousands of homes, people will invite their friends and neighbors to watch the concerts and join the movement.
In order to make these parties truly global, I've decided to partner with Avaaz. The 385,000 Avaaz members from every corner of the world, who mobilized to pressure the G8, amazed me. Avaaz's work to give ordinary people around the world a powerful voice in global decision-making is inspiring, and your organizing around the G8 Summit made a significant difference. Now we have the opportunity to expand on that great effort.
Will you commit to organize a Live Earth house party on July 7th? The parties will be fun--and they'll make a difference. If you've got a few friends and a TV, you've got everything you need.
http://www.avaaz.org/en/live_earth/lg.php
7.7.07 will be the one opportunity we have to bring millions of new people into our campaign. We cannot let it slip by.
If you host a Live Earth Party, you'll have access to a special video I've made to urge people to take action. Together, I know we can convince everyone attending these parties to get involved. In a few short hours, you and your friends can watch the concert, take action -- and, at the end, upload a photo from your event that will be accessible to others taking part throughout the world. Through these parties, we can reach more people than ever before and build a truly global movement to solve the climate crisis.
Holding a Live Earth party is easy. All you need is a television and a few friends. We will provide you with all the tools you need.Sign up as a party host by visiting: http://www.avaaz.org/en/live_earth/lg.php
Live Earth will be a unique moment when the uninterrupted and undivided attention of the world will be focused on the climate crisis. I need your help to make it count.
Thank you,
Al Gore
