Let's save a Montreal Green Space!!!

Hello Londoners, an important green space needs your support!

The Parc des îles de Boucherville is located in the Greater Montreal Region. Situated in the middle of the St-Lawrence River, made up of many islands and offering multiple options for recreational activities, this Québec park is a gem in terms of green and blue spaces for the Metropolitan area. We can have easy access to it by the Lafontaine tunnel, taking the Île Charron exit.

But a residential development project could compromise its integrity. In fact, Desjardins Sécurité Financière has just sold the land it possessed on the island (24ha) to a developer. It is estimated that up to 2500 housing units could replace this important natural space right next to the park where we can currently find deer populations. Above the loss of wildlife habitat, a green space connected to the park, this project has the potential of adding many thousands of cars to a route already being overused. Many well-known people in Québec have written letters to Madame Line Beauchamp, Ministre de l'Environnement, du Développement durable et des Parcs, to Mr. Alban D'Amours, president of le Mouvement Desjardins and to Mr. Claude Gladu, mayor of Longueuil, to ask them to intervene in order to stop this development project and protect the future of the Parc national des îles-de-Boucherville.

The population is also invited to give its support to the protection of this natural space in signing this petition (only in available in French).
