"BUY IN" TO ORGANIC PRODUCE

Fresh, local, organic veggies all summer long... what could be better than that?

London City Farm is fully planted and ready to sell garden shares for the season. For only $20/week you can pick up your basket at:

- Covent Garden Farmers Market (Thursday or Saturday)
- Masonville Mall Farmers Market (Friday)
- Western Fair Farmers Market (Saturday)

Or you can harvest your own at the garden on Monday evenings from 6pm to 8pm.

What is London City Farm?
We are a not-for-profit urban farm dedicated to cultivating heirloom varieties of food by organic methods. These are varieties that have been bred for taste and nutrition, not for travel across the country. You'll be delighted and surprised at the diversity of these fresh, local treasures. Join us in preserving the health and well being of our local community!

What do we do?

We operate a 2-acre plot at Fanshawe Village, and we make the produce available to chefs at local restaurants who appreciate the superior value of locally grown heirloom vegetables. Our produce is also enjoyed by our members who purchase shares.

For more information or to purchase your 2009 share contact ROSE at rosemarywhite@sympatico.ca or 519.777.8299 (email preferred).

KUDO's for GreenDrinks London

(Photo of our Labatt tour courtesy of Jodi Simpson, Tech Alliance)

Thank you GreenDrinkers for being such a welcoming bunch! I am endlessly proud to share time with you. Tiffany

On behalf of myself and my Mom, we'd like to express our Thanks! for Tiffany's warm welcome extended to us to join in your group's recent meeting at The Black Shire Pub in London. Everyone was so friendly, and we truly enjoyed hearing the updates of what is happening in London. We happened to have been seated in the 2nd level of the Pub when your Tuesday tour of Labatt's had concluded. It was a pleasure to chat with all of you!

I noticed on your announcements that your July meeting is a field trip, TBA. Will you share an e-mail to let me know when and where that will be? We might work in another road trip to visit.

Thanks again,

Theresa & Dorothy

e-Dialogue for Sustainable Development

Check out this neat website... http://crcresearch.org/research-tools/e-dialogues/e-dialogues

The e-Dialogues research project attempts to push internet communication technologies (ICTs) to be forces of light rather than dark. They are designed to stimulate substantive dialogue between leading academics and diverse audiences, including the public policy community. Our objectives are to stimulate dialogue around critical sustainable development issues; to use and evaluate electronic dialogue as a tool to increase literacy, both scientific and social, around specific sustainable development issues; to determine if e-Dialogues can inform public policy development, and to determine the efficacy of this medium for building points of consensus for governments. Ultimately, our vision is to have listeners who would 'tune in' to an e-dialogue, similarly as you would tune into a radio program, such as CBC's Ideas.

  • How to feed a meat-eating partner if you are vegetarian or vegan?
  • What to do when our kids rebel against our healthy diet?

Join People From Over 50 Countries For This Special Event...

http://www.youtube.com/homeproject

In honour of World Environment Day, watch Yann Arthus-Betrand’s film about the effects of climate change.

June 5th is World Environment Day. Join in on a major international event – the online screening of Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s brand-new film, Home. Bertrand is a French journalist, reporter, environmentalist and the photographer for the book Earth from Above. This full length film will be available for viewing online for free until June 14th.

The film is intended to raise awareness about the effects of climate change, the topic for this year’s WED. The film will be screened in over 50 countries, often for free, on all media – theatres, TV, DVD and Internet – to reach the widest audience possible.

We are living in exceptional times. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth's climate.

The stakes are high for us and our children. Everyone should take part in the effort, and HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being.

For this purpose, HOME needs to be free. A patron, the PPR Group, made this possible. EuropaCorp, the distributor, also pledged not to make any profit because Home is a non-profit film.

HOME has been made for you: share it! And act for the planet.

Yann Arthus-Bertrand

Workshop: Solar Heat for Water Heating (Sarnia)
More and more people on this planet are sharing limited resources such as fossil energy sources, and the energy and resource hunger of the developing countries are adding to the consumption and depletion. North America has the highest per capita energy consumption in the world. The use of fossil energies is leading to build-up of CO2 in the atmosphere, and changes in global climate, the magnitude of which is not yet fully understood, but potentially very significant. Canada’s arctic and glaciers are melting, and we pretend it is business as usual. We need to move to a long term and sustainable form of use of energy, and renewable energy technologies are this way. This presentation will focus on solar heat for water heating, explain the technology, show examples and look at how applicable this technology is for Canada and the US. Heat generation is a very significant user of energy in North America, and solar heat can and will make a sizable impact. Speaker: Klaus Dohring is the founder and President of Green Sun Rising (www.GreenSunRising.com), a Canadian company in renewable energy technologies, focusing on renewable energies for heat generation. Introductions: Maike Luiken, Ph.D., Chair, IEEE London Section, Dean, Applied Research, Business Development & Innovation, Sustainability Development. For more info visit http://www.bluewatersustainabilityinitiative.com
